Circular Div in Dojo?

The servers were down at work today so I did this:

Circular Div using Dojo, HTML5 and SVG

NB: I seriously doubt this will work in Internet Explore.

The coding ismless cute than I would normally hope for. However, I'll probably refactor it next time I'm bored.

Apparently SVG dosen't do word-wrapping which, seems like a massive missing feature. If you want to wrap than you have to do it yourself. It reminded me of one of my old A-level mechanical maths problems.

If you want to use my code, feel free to download, tweak, mangle-up and re-use. Please credit me somewhere in the code, thanks.

To use, you need'll the latest Dojo 1.7 using the AMD loader. I've placed mine in the folder /scripts/simpo/svg/ but you could place it within your own structure as long as you edit the define statement.

Foursquare

Foursquare, for those who do not know, is a Social Network based around location. It is the original checkin service (before Facebook stole the idea). Started in 2008, it quickly became very popular in the US before losing traction.Foursquare special offer image

I have a bit of a soft-spot for them and hope they gain mass acceptance. I still feel there is room at the top for a location-based network. Twitter and Facebook co-exist because they are inherently different. Foursquare has its own unique space; whether it will ever occupy that space is debatable.

Foursquare is a game; its addictive; and you get cool discounts. Facebook place however, lacks the fun element and offers nothing of value, except, “hey, I was here”. It’s a bit like the graffiti you find inscribed in park benches. They took a great idea and made it boring to the masses.

“Foursquare will be big in Britain says chief” - Telegraph

The tone of the above article leaves me with the feeling that Foursquare could still gain momentum. It could work, if they have the right discounts (and not ones you can get anyway); especially, in the UK.

We have a lot of store loyalty cards here. If companies build apps that throw personalised vouchers at you (based on shopping history); well, who knows? Imagine checking-in to Tesco and getting a few Tesco points for your effort and a voucher for today’s shop. If that sort of thing happens then Foursquare could become popular.

The UK could prove to be a turning point for them. Facebook was very popular here while Myspace was still dominating the US. Google was no.1 in the UK for long time before it occupied that spot in the US. Trends seem to go mainstream a lot quicker here than in North America.

The UK userbase is rubbish and the only discounts available seem to be Domino Pizza. I’m really hoping this changes and Foursquare takes off (but I’m not holding my breath).

Real time stalking via Google Analytics

Am loving the the real-time stats on Google Analytics. Although, it feels like a stalkers paradise.

It's a bit boring when I look at my blog site but quite addictive when I view the Council site I help administer. I really want to have a TV at the end of the Web Team desk with this running live.

It's definitely a product for websites with heavy traffic rather than small sites.
